Human trafficking is a form modern day slavery. This is a horrific human rights issue which crosses all borders and nations. People can be trafficked for many different forms of exploitation such as forced prostitution, forced labour, forced begging, forced criminality, domestic servitude, forced marriage, and forced organ removal. The film “I AM SLAVE”, directed by Gabriel Range, tells the tragic tale of human trafficking of a young Sudanese girl, Malia. She is kidnaped from her home in the Nuba mountains during a vicious Muharleen raid on her village. Malia is trafficked and sold into slavery to work for a wealthy Sudanese family. For six years she works daily with little rest and harsh punishments including beatings. When she reaches 18 years old, the family send her to London to be a slave for another family. The brutality continues, but now on British soil.
